One of the first steps in achieving the perfect curls is identifying your curl type so that you know how to manage them.
There are several different curl types, each with their own unique characteristics and needs. The most common curl types include Wavy, Curly, Kinky, and Coily.
To determine your curl type, start by washing your hair and allowing it to air dry without any products or styling. Once your hair is dry, take a look at the shape and pattern of your curls. Are they loose and wavy, or tight and coily?
Wavy curls are typically loose with a visible "S" pattern in various lengths. These curls tend to be more manageable and less prone to frizz. All of our Curly Bird styling techniques still apply, but your hair will be more forgiving of mistakes and slip-ups.
Curly patterns are tighter and more defined, with a visible "S" or "C" pattern. These curls tend to be more prone to frizz and may require more styling and maintenance. Curly Bird Styling Cream will be your friend!
Kinky and Coily curls are the tightest with a visible "Z" pattern. These curls are often the most prone to dryness and may require extra moisture and hydration. You'll want to experiment with using the Curly Bird Conditioner as a leave-in conditioner and light hold, either alone or in addition to the Styling Cream. Be sure to follow our tips on this website for shampooing your hair sparingly, to preserve your natural oils.
It's important to note that many people have a combination of curl types, or belong somewhere in between types on the curl spectrum. Additionally, curl type scan also vary across different sections of your head, so you may have one curl type at the crown of your head and another curl type at the nape of your neck.
Once you have identified your curl type, you can start to begin applying our Curly Bird products and styling techniques that will work best for your unique curls. Our line of shampoo, conditioner, and styling cream is specially formulated to enhance and define your curls by providing the moisture they need using organic ingredients.
